Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day Celebrations

The Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Friday 15 September 2017 at Burhill Golf Club in Surrey, England. To date they have distributed more than £1.8 million (GBP) to registered South African charity beneficiaries. This year alone, with a committee that operates voluntarily, they anticipate to fundraise more than 2 million South African Rand in a single day.

2017 also marks the 6th year with Nedbank as Title Sponsor. Nedbank pride themselves in their involvement with sports as well as their corporate social responsibility investment across South Africa. They continue to actively support the event with many of their UK-based employees and clients taking part in the day.

“At Nedbank our purpose is to use our financial expertise to do good for individuals, families, businesses and society. It is an honour for Nedbank to be associated with the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day since 2012 – an event that aligns so closely with the purpose of Nedbank and helps the most needy in our society. We are also delighted to see that our friends from the European Tour have also come on board for the first time this year. Their inaugural coverage of the 2016 Nedbank Golf Challenge was nothing short of exceptional. The generosity of all the participants over the years continues to leave us in awe and we will forever be grateful to those who have and continue to play their part in the betterment of the lives of many South Africans.”

– Mike Brown, CEO of Nedbank.

The European Tour will be supporting the event for the first time in 2017 and hope to help increase fundraising efforts on the day. The Nedbank Golf Challenge will be played at Sun City on 9-12 November 2017 and it is the penultimate event on The European Tour’s Race to Dubai thus linking the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day with the tournament is a natural fit.

“We are delighted to assist the charitable fundraising which goes to numerous worthwhile causes within South Africa and to encourage supporters of the Tour to participate in this excellent golf day.”
-Andy Stubbs, Director for International Policy of the European Tour.

Founder of the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day, Geoff Johnson (read his profile) , is delighted with the announcement of support from the European Tour.
“What a privilege it is to have the support of The European Tour on the back of our much appreciated six year relationship and Title sponsorship from Nedbank. For many years Nedbank have provided the South African sporting public the opportunity to see the World’s top golfers in action at the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge. Through their renewed contract to continue the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day in the UK, they are investing so much to improve the lives of children in South Africa through education, housing, medical and nutritional programs.” – Geoff Johnson.

About the Nedbank South African Charity Golf Day Event

What started out as a small number of London-based South African businessmen playing a round of golf together in the mid to late 1990s, is now considered to be the largest event of its kind in Europe. This event proudly boasts an impressive 360 golfers playing over two 18 hole courses and 500 gala dinner guests. What impresses most participants, beyond the sheer size of the event, is the professionalism with which it is organized and the value for money that each player receives. The event has become so popular that at least 50% of guests are non-South Africans. It is also renowned for providing a fantastic platform for business networking.

Upon arrival, you are guided through to registration where you receive complimentary tea, coffee and a boerewors roll (with a vegetarian option too). You are also given an extensive ‘goody bag’ which contains a variety of useful items including a Gary Player Black Knight golf shirt. There are complimentary drinks and food options served throughout the day on both courses. For the early bird starters, there’s the additional entry to the Sports Panel afternoon tea during which top sporting legends take part in a conversation followed by a lively Q&A session. As the evening approaches, guests are wowed by a phenomenal trick golf show hosted by Jeremy Dale and some authentic South African entertainment before being ushered into the marquee where a silver service three course meal and further entertainment awaits.
