A 39-year-old Egyptian tourist who was on vacation in South Africa is recovering in a Western Cape hospital after being attacked, robbed and stabbed nine times while walking on the beach.
Craig Lambinon, spokesman for the National Maritime Rescue Institute (NSRI), said the incident occurred at the Noordhoek beach south of Cape Town.
“NSRI paramedics treated the man for stab wounds on his chest and head. Although his condition is serious, he was stabilized and then transported to a hospital, “he said.
Ian Klopper, station commander of Kommetjie police, said the man is currently in a stable condition. “We were afraid that one of the stab wounds had damaged his lung, which could cause it to fall flat.”
Klopper says the man’s wallet, documents and keys for a rental car were stolen with him.
Nobody has been arrested yet. An investigation regarding the incident continues.
