South Africa, international pressure mounting

While the South African media remains conveniently quiet about international resistance to the current regime in the country, dr Dan Roodt described it as “already bigger than the anti apartheid movement ever was.”

During the apartheid years groups of people regularly protested outside South African embassies. It is however worth remembering that these protests were funded by various liberal governments, amongst others Sweden and the Netherlands. The United Nations also backed the movement. The anti-apartheid movement cannot, therefore, really be regarded as a spontaneous movement, while the current protest movement definitely is exactly that.

Rassie Erasmus confirmed as Springbok coach

Cape Town – Rassie Erasmus will spearhead a streamlined but experienced Springbok management team until the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, SA Rugby confirmed on Wednesday, as the former Springbok captain will combine his Springbok coaching duties with his current role as director of rugby at SA Rugby.

The 45-year-old Erasmus takes over the national coaching duties from Allister Coetzee, who was in charge of the Boks during the past two years. His three assistant coaches will be Jacques Nienaber, Pieter de Villiers and Mzwandile Stick, while Aled Walters will join the management team as head of athletic performance.
