Cricket News: Aiden Markram breaks into top 10 in the latest ICC Test Rankings

The 23-year old joins two other Proteas at the top of the batting rankings, while Kagiso Rabada remains the best bowler in Test cricket.

Proteas opening batsman, Aiden Markram has had a fairytale start to his international career and it has been further underlined by him surging up the ICC Test Rankings into the top 10 in the batting category.

The 23-year old made his highest score in Test cricket during the first innings of the fourth and final Test against Australia at The Wanderers, when he piled on the misery on the troubled visitors, eventually getting out for 152, his second triple figure score of the series.

He finished as the leading run scorer with 480 runs at an average of 60, to climb up to ninth spot in the rankings, one spot below opening partner, Dean Elgar and two behind AB de Villiers, the highest-placed South African at sixth.

Australia’s disgraced former skipper, Steve Smith remains at the top, with co-conspirator, David Warner also in the top five.

Among the bowlers, Proteas speedster, Kagiso Rabada still reigns supreme after finishing the series as the leading wicket taker, claiming the man of the series accolade in the process.

English stalwart, James Anderson is in second-place, followed by Vernon Philander, who’s nine wicket haul in the 492-run win at The Wanderers earned him the man of the match award.

The 32-year old took career best figures of six for 21, and has jumped up six spots from joint ninth.

Pat Cummins, who took 22 wickets in the series is at sixth place, a place above Morne Morkel who bows out of international cricket ranked one of the ten best bowlers in Test cricket.
