A foreign couple was attacked on Monday in the Wilderness area of the Garden Route National Park.
SANParke spokesperson Nandi Mgwadlamba said the German couple were attacked at the Brown-Hooded Kingfisher hiking trail at about 14:30.
The couple was robbed of all their valuable items while walking on this route. “SANParke and the police responded immediately and started to search for to the suspects, as described by the victims.” The couple will receive trauma counseling.
Capt. Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie told Maroela Media that the couple was on their way back from the hiking trail when the incident occurred. “Three masked men attacked them, two were armed with knives. The couple were robbed of a camera, their watches, rings and other jewelry as well as a considerable amount of cash, “said Pojie.
The suspects fled from the scene on foot. “They are not injured, but very traumatized. They left for Port Elizabeth yesterday and from there to Cape Town and then returned to abroad, so it’s hard to get them hold of them.”
The man is 54 years old. Pojie could not immediately confirm the woman’s age.
SANParke increased the amount of patrols on the route and linked with the Wilderness Police Forum.
They advised all visitors not to disclose valuable items such as jewelry, cameras and cell phones. The Brown-Hooded Kingfisher Trail is about 5 km long.
The police are investigating a case of robbery.
