South African Olympic swimming champion Cameron van der Burgh married his Pretoria fiancé, Nefeli Valakelis on Monday.
Van der Burgh, who became 30 in May, and Valakelis tied the knot at the luxurious Ktima 48 resort in Anavyssos in eastern Greece.
Valakelis is of Greek origin and a former lawyer currently employed as account manager for the advertising company Ogilvy & Mather.
Many celebrities, including Van der Burgh’s Olympic swimming team Ryk Neethling, the swimmer Chad le Clos and the actor and entrepreneur Maps Mapanean attended the big day.
“It’s nice to be back in Athens where our dreams are true,” Neethling wrote on Twitter on Twitter. “Tomorrow we celebrate Cameron and Nefeli’s wedding day.”
Van der Burgh also shared a wedding photo of him and his bride on Instagram. “I announce, sir and madam van der Burgh,” he wrote.
The couple became engaged in Switzerland in December 2016 during a skiing holiday.
